The year 2024 presented numerous challenges across the globe. The ongoing crisis in Ukraine and the escalation of conflict in the Gaza region have endangered countless lives and livelihoods, reminding us of the critical importance of international solidarity and humanitarian aid. These events call upon each of us to reflect on our responsibilities and actions toward a peaceful and harmonious world.
Domestically, natural disasters such as the earthquake in the Noto Peninsula disrupted the foundations of many lives. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to all those affected and earnestly hope for the swift recovery and rebuilding of their communities.
Despite these trials, the past year also brought rays of hope. The awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to the Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations (Nihon Hidankyo) was a moment of immense pride for us as Japanese citizens. Their unwavering advocacy for peace over many decades has been recognized on a global scale, inspiring us to take even greater strides toward the abolition of nuclear weapons and the realization of a safer future for all.
